Most of us a significant time of our day in front of screens, whether it's working on a computer, scrolling through our smartphones, or watching TV.

While technology has undoubtedly improved our lives in countless ways, it has also brought about a common problem: eye strain. If you've ever experienced tired, dry, or sore eyes after a long day of screen time, you're not alone. Fortunately, there are several simple and effective steps you can take to reduce eye strain and keep your eyes feeling fresh and comfortable.

Here are 5 things you can do to reduce eye strain:

Follow the 20-20-20 Rule

The 20-20-20 rule is a straightforward technique to alleviate eye strain. Take a 20-second break every 20 minutes and focus on an object at least 20 feet away. This short break allows your eyes to relax and reduces the stress caused by prolonged screen use.

Adjust Your Screen Settings

Proper screen settings can make a world of difference. Ensure that your screen's brightness and contrast are set to comfortable levels. Adjust the text size and display settings to reduce glare and make text easier to read.

Optimize Your Workspace

Position your screen at eye level and ensure it is at a comfortable distance from your eyes (usually around 20-24 inches). Adjust the screen angle to minimize glare from windows or overhead lights. A well-organized workspace can reduce the need for excessive eye movement and improve your posture, which can also help reduce eye strain.

Adding an adjustable LED Monitor Light to your workspace can also provide focused and better lighting which reduces eye fatigue and discomfort.

Keep Your Eyes Hydrated

Staring at screens often leads to reduced blinking, which can cause dry eyes. Be mindful of blinking more frequently while using digital devices. You can also use artificial tears or eye drops to keep your eyes moist if needed.

Drinking enough water helps maintain tear production, preventing dry eyes. Additionally, consider using a humidifier in your workspace, especially in dry environments, to keep the air moist.

Get Regular Eye Check-up

Don't underestimate the importance of regular eye check-ups. An eye exam can identify vision problems or issues that may contribute to eye strain. Your eye care professional can also recommend specialized computer glasses or contact lenses designed to reduce digital eye strain.

While screens are an integral part of modern life, it's crucial to take steps to protect your eyes from the potential harm they can cause. Incorporate these seven practices into your daily routine to significantly reduce eye strain and maintain healthy eyes. Remember that prioritizing your eye health not only enhances your overall well-being but also ensures that you can continue to enjoy the benefits of technology for years to come.
